I teach at Cornell University, where I am the Sue G. and Harry E. Bovay, Jr., '36 Senior Lecturer and Director of the History and Ethics of Professional Engineering, and Senior Lecturer (by courtesy) in the Sage School of Philosophy.
In the College of Engineering, I direct the Sue G. and Harry E. Bovay, Jr., '36 Program in the History and Ethics of Professional Engineering.
Previously, I worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Embedded EthiCS at Harvard University, as an Ethics and Education Consultant for Ethically Aligned AI, Inc., and as a Banting Postdoctoral Fellow at Dalhousie University. I took my Ph.D. in Philosophy at the University of Sheffield.
In my spare time, I design, run, and play tabletop roleplaying games.
I am genderqueer. I take any pronouns, but I am increasingly preferring the "they" series.
My surname is pronounced /gets/.
I work mainly on the Ithaca, NY, campus, which is located on the traditional homelands of the Gayogo̱hó:nǫɁ (the Cayuga Nation), a member of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy (Six Nations). Please visit the CUID Project website for information about Cornell's history in connection with First Nations and the dispossession of indigenous land in the United States.
